Pilot emergency rotary jetting kit

The emergency rotary jetting kit has been developed by Practica to drill boreholes for drinking water supply in emergency situations and remote areas. A number of relief organisations in the Speedskits project have given their input to the design process; which resulted in a functioning kit that is easily transportable, robust and simple to use. All components can be changed by locally manufactured spare parts, which makes this a suitable option for local private enterprises. This will increase local capacity and resilience and make a contribution to both the emergency and developmental stage of relief projects. In collaboration with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, a pilot and training was organised to evaluate the kit in the context it has been designed for.

  • To pilot the emergency rotary jetting kit and evaluate its performance
  • To train local ERCS staff on the operation of the kit

  • Theory training on applied geo-hydrology
  • Site selection and community mobilisation
  • Practical training on drilling and supervision
  • Evaluation of the kit

  • ERCS staff and local government officials trained
  • Two wells drilled during the training
  • Initiation of a monitoring and evaluation process
  • red cross well drilling
  • searching gravel pack
  • community mobilisation
