Low-cost technologies for multiple water use

CRS MG implements activities that support multiple water use at low cost in the Androy region in Madagascar. PRACTICA supports the organisations by developing methodological tools to assess the state and operation of water infrastructures. In addition, PRACTICA provides technical assistance and training on low-cost drilling and pumping technologies for drinking water and irrigation.

Goals

  • Rehabilitation of water points and drilling new wells for small population groups.
  • Increase knowledge of principle and application conditions of multiple use systems.
  • Build up local capacities on manual drilling techniques.
  • Control the quality of produced equipment and the operation of works.

Activities

  • Develop diagnostic support infrastructure
  • Test coatings (liner) / rehabilitation of catchment
  • Training on rota sludge drilling
  • Training on rope pump production and operation
  • Training on foot pump irrigation kits

47,857 € provided by OFDA.

Results

  • A total of four teams represented by 20 participants have been trained in the production or operation of the proposed technologies.
