Training & Education

Although PRACTICA foundation is still known by many for the development and promotion of innovative technical solution to problems in the field of water and energy, the focus of the recent projects is more and more on training or local capacity building. For the training purpose, PRACTICA has developed several training manuals on the production, installation and use of different technologies, as the rope pump and the rota-sludge well drilling.

Instead of promoting a technology, PRACTICA promotes the transfer of knowledge and the transfer of production capacity to local partners and by doing so, also the transfer of ownership of the technology or service.

Within the training projects, follow up visits, in-service training and refresher courses are essential to improve and maintain the quality of the products or services needed to be sustainable; in too many cases a training course without follow-up results in poor-quality products or services and thus to project failure. This also consolidates the need for an independent local partner who will have a key role in the follow-up services.

PRACTICA always engages partners in long-term commitments to ensure the necessary follow-up can be given. The engagements often also include the possibilities to further develop and improve the training materials to fit the local context.

Some examples of extensive training programmes are given in the projects section, for example the JICA rope pump training project in Ethiopia or the UNICEF manual well drilling project in Chad.
