PRACTICA was established to provide NGOs, private sector organizations and the public sector with practical know-how of appropriate technologies. Experience is that there is a substantial body of affordable low-cost options readily available which could make significant contributions to improving rural livelihoods. For a number of reasons, these innovations are applied haphazardly and fragmented in most countries. The products presented in this section are either appropriated from one country and adapted to suit other countries and conditions, or developed based on an observed vacuum existent in the market. PRACTICA has further developed all of these products to meet the needs in a wide range of countries. This included adapting the design to locally available production methods and choosing materials that are easily available. All the products have been field tested and experiences from manufacturers and users have been included in the product design. PRACTICA considers a product appropriate if it can be produced and repaired locally, is affordable for the target group and can be made available through the local private sector. For all the products listed here, implementation strategies and materials have been developed. |
